Stained Glass Auction
We will be holding a sealed bid auction Sunday, July 13 through Wednesday July 16. You may fill out a bid sheet for a piece and drop it in the box for that piece. All pieces are numbered. No one will see bids until the boxes are opened and bids sorted. The Trustees have placed a minimum bid on each piece. You may bid any time between Sunday July 13 through Wednesday July 16 at the CommUNITY Dinner. During office hours (Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday) bring bids to the office (you may also call Angie Arnold, Church Administrator). Bidding stops at 6:30 after the Dinner, when our Administrative Council meets. Only one bid is necessary, but if you decide you want to increase your bid, you may add another bid. Whoever has the highest bid will win. You do not need to be present to win. If you are not at the Council meeting, we will contact you. We will have photos of each piece on our website. You may also examine each piece in the Crossroads Center on Sunday and Wednesday Evening. If you would like to examine a piece during office hours Mon-Wed, please come by the office.
We hope to announce winners before the end of the Council meeting. The Trustees have intended this auction for people who have a connection to our church- rather than a stranger who will simply resell items on ebay or Etsy. These works are part of our historic past.
There are a total of 26 pieces which vary in size and complexity. Those with wooden frames utilize wood from old church pews. Please note: These are works of art. Some are a bit delicate and there may be some burrs or sharp edges, so be careful. Some are to be displayed, not handled. Epoxy pieces are obviously more rugged and more easily handled. There will be at least two more auctions so these 26 pieces are only the first batch.
About the stained glass: These pieces of art were created from the stained glass and/or old wooden pews in our old sanctuary. Thus the glass and wood date to around 1921. Bob McCrory (with the assistance of Alesha Dabbs) has created a few pieces that are stock (meaning they are isolated portions of the original stained glass with little or no changes). However, most of the works are new creations. He often dissects a stained-glass panel which has broken pieces in it and re-organizes the pieces into new and smaller arrangements. Some of his works include cutting the pieces to new sizes or shapes. In so doing, lots of tiny shards or fragments are produced. Rather than waste these, he is even making use of the shards trapping them in creative (and safe) ways
using epoxy shapes!
Special Details about a few of the pieces in this group:
-
Item # 16 does not have stained glass. It has dyed epoxy, but the frame is made
from the wood of the old pews.
-
Item # 17 is an abstract representation of the manger scene.
-
Item # 20 is a kaleidoscope.
-
Items 9, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 21, 24, and 25 are sun catchers that hang in the
window.
All proceeds from the auction will go to support the Missions Committee in their work. If you have any questions not addressed here, please call the Church Administrator.
